A very large antique French confit pot. Glazed internally and around the rim and top half externally in a golden buttery yellow glaze.
Confit pots were originally used in the south of France for preserving duck. A hole was dug in the ground and the pot with the meat inside was buried half way up to keep cool. This explains why the majority of the confit pots are glazed internally and only partially externally.
Today they grace any style of home, both minimalist modern and cool eclectic and ancient.
They make a perfect vessel for a prized plant with a little gravel in the base.
or the trend for dried grasses, twigs and flowers also works wonderfully with a confit pot.
Size: 34cm h, 32cm w including handles.
Weight:approx 3.5 kg
The glaze Internally And around the rim And externally is in good condition, The pot has a regular amount of small cracks and wear and tear. Pictured.
